We're changing our name

We have outgrown our name. 

After nearly fifteen years the Richardson-Plano Storytellers have expanded their reach well beyond those two cities.  
And that's just what we want to do.  

We pull in gifted and wannabee story tellers from communities all over the far-north Dallas area,
Collin County, and even Denton County.  

Our new name,

The NORTH 40 STORYTELLERS GUILD

represents our location north of Dallas,
our Texas rural roots, and
the sense that we are "way out there!"

Watch this site for details.  We should make the transition to our new identity some time this summer.

New Feature:   TELLER TIPS

We are introducing a new feature to our web site in order to teach our readers more about the craft of storytelling.   Our first article has been contributed by Ann Marie Newman:

     WWWOWWWs are out there storytellers and story lovers!  These inspirational and informative websites are waiting in cyberspace just for you.  They are excellent resources for researching stories, networking with tellers from around the world, learning the marketing skills for becoming a professional tellers, and keeping up with current storytelling trends.

     I am a HUGE web surfer.  There are so many interesting and inspirational storytellers out there generously sharing their knowledge and gifts with the world.   They keep me inspired and informed about this awesome storytelling journey I find myself on.

    This is a WONDERFUL site.  I cannot stress enough how helpful this site is.  It features articles and interviews with the creme de la creme in children's storytelling who share valuable insight and knowledge on a multitude of different subjects related to telling stories to children.

    Storytellers contribute to this site where a huge database has been created for searching out stories of ALL kinds.  It is always my first stop when I'm looking for new material.

    Grammy winning storyteller Bill Harley's website and myspace are wonderful places to visit.  Listen to several of his delightful songs, read his newsletter and see where he's been going on his travels.  He's one of my heroes in the world of storytelling --  what a guy!

    Folktexts:  A library of folktales, folklore, fairy tales and mythology.  This is a huge resource site that is invaluable for searching out tales of every kind.

    Storyteller Heather Forest's website.   She has lots of helpful information for anyone who tells stories to children

    Network with other tellers and read excellent articles aobut the business of storytelling

    Great new website for professional storytellers.   Membership required.   I plan on joining soon.

OUR MEETING PLACE   

is at the Heritage Farmstead in Plano. The address is 1900 West 15th St. We normally meet on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 in the Young House (white house in rear between pole barn and one-room school house). We are very excited about meeting in this wonderful venue and we encourage visitors to join us. 

Heritage Farmstead is a preserved 1890's blackland praries farm.  It is a working farm with real animals, gardens, barns, a one-room school house and a charming Victorian home.  Tours are given during normal hours.
